Good to know

When talking about lifestyle in Spanish, Estilo de vida and Modo de vida both describe how someone lives. Nivel de vida concerns material comfort, while Costo de vida refers to living expenses. The latter wording is especially common in Latin America.

Ganarse la vida means earning a living. Vivir al límite suggests risk or extreme experiences; Vivir la vida al máximo stresses making the most of life without necessarily implying danger. Nómade describes someone who moves from place to place without a fixed home. This form is especially common in Argentina and Uruguay, but uncommon in Spain.

Rules to remember

  • Prioridad and Actividad are feminine nouns. Panorama is masculine despite ending in -a.
  • In Gastos cotidianos, the adjective follows the noun and agrees with it in the masculine plural. Expresión personal has a feminine singular noun.
  • In Ganarse la vida, the pronoun is attached to the infinitive, and the noun has a definite article.
