Good to know

Pronóstico del tiempo concerns day-to-day weather, while Clima describes typical conditions over a long period. Calor and Frío name heat and cold; they are nouns here. Describing the weather and saying that you feel hot or cold require different verb constructions.

Nublado and Despejado are adjectives describing the sky, not complete sentences by themselves. Hace sol is already a complete, impersonal sentence: its verb is in the third-person singular, with no grammatical subject. Lloviendo a cántaros describes a downpour in progress. It contains a gerund and normally needs a conjugated auxiliary verb to form a complete sentence.

Rules to remember

  • The nouns ending in -ción on this page are feminine: Precipitación, Inundación and Evaporación.
  • Cambiante, Sofocante and Suave have the same adjective form for masculine and feminine nouns, but their form changes in the plural.
  • In Día abrasador, Presión atmosférica and Desastre natural, the adjective follows the noun. Adjectives agree with their noun in gender and number, even when the ending does not visibly mark gender.
