Good to know
The meaning of Spanish adjectives can depend on word order and the verb used. Pobre before a noun often expresses pity; after it, it usually describes a lack of money or resources. Grande after a noun can describe size; before it, it can express importance.
Listo can mean clever or ready, depending on the verb it accompanies. Actual refers to the present, while Real can mean genuine. Some adjectives also shorten before a noun: Bueno loses its final vowel directly before a masculine singular noun, and Grande normally loses its final two letters before a singular noun of either gender.

Rules to remember
- Adjectives ending in -o, such as Bueno, usually change -o to -a for feminine nouns. Grande and Real have the same form for both genders.
- For plurals, add -s after an unstressed vowel and -es after most consonants. Común loses its written accent in the plural.
- De madera describes material and stays unchanged, whether the noun is masculine or feminine, singular or plural.
